lighting assessment

Quantity of light = Lumens

quality of light = hard or soft

colour of light - daylight = 5600k  tungsten = 3200k

For our assessment the task was to successfully light an interview using 1 point, 2 point and 3-point lighting. Having little experience with lighting and the techniques, my group found this a bit complex. However, looking back at the images and videos, I feel we did a pretty decent job.

As a group we managed to get the lights, tripods and cameras set up fairly quickly and efficiently. As we were inside and in a dark spacious room, we set our colour temperature to Tungsten at about 3500k. We started off deciding where we wanted all the equipment to go. First, we set the chairs up ready for the interview so that we could build the rest of the set around them, after that we decided where to place the key light. We decided to put the key light to the right of the camera that was facing the interviewee, having the subject framed on the right third

we decided to turn off the main lights of the room so that we could control the lighting more precisely. the 1-point setup meant there were dark shadows on much of the subjects face with a large contrast between the light and the dark section. however i think we did a good job on creating depth only using one light.

Next, we moved on to a 2-point set up. We decided to put this light on the opposite side of the camera to light up the darker areas of the interviewees face. We also did a couple shots of just using the back light to light up those dark areas and create more depths between the subject and the background

Our final task was a 3-point set up. we decided to have the key light close to the camera. with the second placed off to the side to fill up the dark spots. in retrospect we should have placed the second light in a better position, the third light was used as a back light to fill up those last darker sections and mainly to create the depth and sharpness.
