macro Filmmaking and photography

this session we were given the task to shoot a 30 second macro video, i enjoyed this session as it made us think more about the positioning of the shots (having to lie in the wet grass was good fun) and thinking about how the shots will piece together to make one video.

i enjoyed being able to manipulate the surroundings of the shots by adding and removing piece's of the picture which would be much harder on a bigger scale.

after doing a rough edit of the video i think that the shots we took were really nice however i think that we didn't take enough shots to create any kind of story. as group i feel like we did a good job especially since alot of us had no prior experience shooting in macro (was very evident when we didn't realise we didn't switch the lens to macro mode

What is macro?

Macro photography/video is extreme close-up photography, usually of very small subjects and living organisms like insects, in which the size of the subject in the photograph is greater than life size.

The ratio of the subject size pn the film plane (or sensor plane) to the actual subject size is known as the reproduction ratio. Likewise, a macro lens is classically a lens capable of reproduction ratios of at least

1:1.

Macro photography helps to develop your ability to hunt out a scene or good subject. You need a keen eye for detail that other people might miss.

Macro photography can capture even the smallest details that you would never notice. Here are amazing samples of simple macro photography ideas you can try anytime.

Task - Look at the following macro inspiration. Choose some available macro subjects. Shoot a short video for the next session, when we will edit it. These macro stories will be used on the Wildlife Media Instagram site as 'reels'. They need to be 15, 30 or 60 seconds long and shot in portrait orientation. We will edit the videos in the next session (Mon 6th)
