lighting assessment

Quantity of light = Lumens quality of light = hard or soft colour of light - daylight = 5600k  tungsten = 3200k   For our assessment the task was to successfully light an interview using 1 point, 2 point and 3-point lighting. Having little experience with lighting and the techniques, my group found this a bit complex. However, looking back at the images and videos, I feel we did a pretty decent job. As a group we managed to get the lights, tripods and cameras set up fairly quickly and efficiently. As we were inside and in a dark spacious room, we set our colour temperature to Tungsten at about 3500k. We started off deciding where we wanted all the equipment to go. First, we set the chairs up ready for the interview so that we could build the rest of the set around them, after that we decided where to place the key light. We decided to put the key light to the right of the camera that was facing the interviewee, having the subject framed on the right third we decided to ...

audio editing (big Ks Podcast)

Image
in this session we edited Keith's (very terribly recorded) audio podcast  i enjoyed this session as it taught me how to properly adjust levels and make the audio sound much more professionals using the broadcasting settings i think i did a good job editing the podcast however i think i made some of the cuts a little too sharp making them sound abit harsh however overall i think the podcast edit was very successful especially the outro (which i spent the majority of the time doing). my skills in audio editing definitely need improvement however as it was the first session for me on editing sound i feel i did a good job.

pre flight check

Pre Flight Checks and Protocols 3/10/2023 - Media Craft Skills - Jon What to do when the phone rings: Location   –  when and where?   Understand the basics before you agree to do something and making sure you’re the right camera person with the right equipment. Although if a producer wants you to be a part of the team, you can get anything arranged for the right fee. What kit will be needed?   Do I need to hire kit? If so what kit? Do I need to familiarize myself with the kit? Or can I charge more for using my own kit? – Can I add more like drone experience? How much will it cost?  Use BECTU website to find the appropriate rates. Is a hotel included? Is travel included? Is food included? Get the right contact information.   Sometimes the person on the other end of the phone won’t be completely involved with the shoot. Make sure to get the directors or producer contact details to stay informed for example if the shoot is still going ahead or if any plans cha...

Handheld walk and talk

Image
in this session we were learning how to shoot walk and talk interviews, i enjoyed this as this type of filming fells more free and is a fun and challenging way of doing an interview i think the hardest part was trying to keep the composition of the subject whilst keeping up with them and keeping the camera relatively still. i am happy with my attempts but definitely need more practice especially since the terrain was flat and easy to maneuver around

macro Filmmaking and photography

Image
this session we were given the task to shoot a 30 second macro video, i enjoyed this session as it made us think more about the positioning of the shots (having to lie in the wet grass was good fun) and thinking about how the shots will piece together to make one video.  i enjoyed being able to manipulate the surroundings of the shots by adding and removing piece's of the picture which would be much harder on a bigger scale. after doing a rough edit of the video i think that the shots we took were really nice however i think that we didn't take enough shots to create any kind of story. as group i feel like we did a good job especially since alot of us had no prior experience shooting in macro (was very evident when we didn't realise we didn't switch the lens to macro mode What is macro? Macro photography/video is extreme close-up photography, usually of very small subjects and living organisms like insects, in which the size of the subject in the photograph is greater...
